Real people, sharing real stories, encouraging real people. This blog was created for the primary purpose of helping others, especially high school and college dropouts. In this endeavor, I invite you to share:

*Commitments and/or goals related to educational studies;
*Encouraging words, Bible verses, quotes, etc..., so that seekers will know they are not alone in his/her journey; and
*Success stories. All educational accomplishments are important!

I can't wait to hear from each of you! For those who share, THANK YOU!

I'll be praying and cheering for those recording commitments and/or goals, agreeing with those providing encouraging words, and dancing when I hear of achievements!

Hmmm, here's a powerful thought:

"If we accept that Life is a gift, it seems to me we must then accept the notion that we ought to do something with this gift." -- Dorothy Cotton

There are many Bible verses referencing education. One of my favorites is below.

“As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.” (Daniel 1:17 KJV)

To find out the name of the four children, please read Daniel 1:1-17. Once you find their names, please post them by hitting the “REPLY” button. (This way the answer appears directly below this information.)

Here’s a challenge: Can you find other verses relating to education in The Holy Bible? If so, please share one by hitting the “SUBMIT” button (not the “REPLY” button.) Then record just one Bible verse. (Recording just one verse will allow bloggers to add comments to a specific verse. Thank you!)

Unto Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar, to Hananiah the name Shadrach, to Mishael the name Meshach, and to Azariah the name Abednego.

I'm going to take a somewhat different approach to education, Verna. I agree it is very important and what is also important is to go to our Heavenly Father for His wisdom and His direction. I failed to do either and because of that I completed a degree program that was not suited to my personality or gifts/talents. I teach children and love it, but teaching was not my college major. I teach, but as a paraprofessional. And as a paraprofessional, I have no retirement and a very small salary!
So my advice to those who are unsure about their future, look at your strengths, your interests, and seek God's direction!

Hi Dr. Harvey,

I browsed around your website and came to the area with your "Education Blog". I am truly blessed and inspired by your testimony! I am currently in school with an expected graduation date in May 2018. I'm praying on confirmation about pursuing a doctoral degree! Your story is a wonderful example of being able to do ALL things through Christ and that our limitations or hindrances don't have to prohibit us from reaching our goals! Thank you for sharing!

    Hi! I'm Verna Harvey.

I dropped out of high school before completing the 11th grade. Since that time, I've worked very hard and have obtained my GED and earned three college degrees! Life was extremely hard before earning my GED. With the attainment of each college degree, additional doors were opened.

I know that education will never solve all problems. However, educational attainment will assist in communicating and implementing personal and global changes. That's why I am passionate about assisting and encouraging those without a high school diploma or its equivalent, as well as students pursuing college degrees to, Finish What You Started. (By the way, this is the tentative title of the newest book I'm working hard to get published.)

EDUCATION is so important that I am asking you to join with me or another organization in helping to spur students towards educational success be it a GED or college degrees. America needs to change the current trajectory of illiteracy in our country because we are perishing.

YOU can help change the trajectory. Here's one way. Visit my contact page to start the process in scheduling a time for me to share my inspiring, yet challenging story with students, parents and/or leaders. At the venue, I will share points I've learned as a student, colleague, instructor, mother, and wife. That's nearly four decades--40 years--of knowledge! These points, if implemented, will help students to complete his/her studies. I know firsthand what a difference this knowledge made in my life. It can make a difference in someone else's life as well.

Hope to hear from you soon!
